The hue that suggests autumn

We’re loving sienna this season for it’s warmth and depth of rich colour. It references the colour of autumn leaves as they turn from green to orange then russet brown before falling. The origin of sienna is as an earth pigment, containing iron oxide and manganese oxide. In its natural state, it is yellowish brown and is called raw sienna. When heated, it becomes a reddish brown, and is often referred to as burnt sienna. The name sienna comes from the Italian terra de Siena, or ‘earth of Siena’ where raw sienna was commonly found.
