Blanket NZ - Buying Guide

 How to choose a blanket

When choosing a blanket there are several key points to consider including which bed the blanket is for as this will determine the size of the blanket you need.

Also consider blanket colour to coordinate with other bedding, the material the blanket is made from to suit the seasons (wool for winter, cotton for summer) and the texture or hand feel of the blanket - do you prefer fluffy blankets or the clean feel of cotton?

Discover our range of blankets, bed covers and quilts designed with comfort and style in mind.

 Benefits of using a blanket

Blankets are versatile bedding layers designed to be used on every bed in your home, in every season. Use a blanket in addition to your regular bedding to make your bed warmer in winter or layer a blanket with just a sheet for lighter bedding during summer, which will help regulate your body temperature for a better nights’ sleep.

Other benefits include adding style and texture to your bed with a knitted or colourful blanket draped on your bed. Blankets can be folded and stored easily in your linen cupboard when not in use.

Blankets FAQs

What type of blanket keeps you the warmest?

A blanket made from pure NZ wool or duck feather will keep you the warmest, perfect for the colder months of autumn and winter. The warm natural fibres of wool and feather are cosy, yet breathable for a comfortable sleep. For keeping cool during the hotter summer months, try a throw blanket made from knitted cotton or a classic waffle cotton blanket with just a sheet.

What blankets are best for beds?

The best blanket for your bed really depends on your needs. If you are looking for a blanket that generously covers your bed, make sure you check the measurements to purchase a blanket that’s the right size and big enough. Consider the fabric the blanket is made of, the colour and texture so it best suits your needs and your bedroom. You may prefer a smaller throw blanket to drape over the end of your bed for styling. These smaller blankets are also lovely to sleep under for an afternoon nap and to cosy under while relaxing on your sofa.

Blanket Caring Tips

Our blankets are made from beautiful, natural and breathable natural fabrics and fibres.  We recommend reading the care label on each item and following the laundering instructions specific to the blanket. Washing instructions will differ for different fabrics such as wool, cotton and feather. We also recommend taking extra care when handling knitted throw blankets as jewellery can easily get caught in the threads and cause pulls. Learn how to care for all the fabrics our beautiful collections are made from in our Fabric Care Guides.
